About Maca (Martacarmela Sotelo)

macaMaca was born in Mexico City, July 10th 1972. She studied graphic design applied to photography in 1991 in the Active Photography School and in 1996, she graduated with a BA in architecture from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico. From 1994 until 1998, she worked with her father, a distinguished architect, specializing in interior architecture. She completed a course in metalwork from 1998-1999 in the National Education System and later in 1999, she studied a course in wax pouring in the National Association of Silver and Jewelry. In the same year she started working in the ceramics studio of Magda Alazraki, the famous Mexican ceramist.

Maca has always loved experimenting with different materials. She is a versatile artists who has produced work in almost all mediums: paper, wood, metal and cloth.

Maca is currently living in the UK, studying oil painting medium, mixed media painting, etching, creative drawing and printmaking under Michael Major, Caroline List, Toni Martina, Ruth Eisenart and Vivian Klein at the Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London.
